The Red Hat Society

Members of the Red Hat Society

How gorgeous is this group of women? They are all members of the Red Hat Society, which is, as their website states, "an organization of women who meet for tea wearing red hats and purple dresses." I came across these lovely ladies just moments before catching a train from Colchester to London. They were off to meet up with other members of the society to see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Savoy Theatre, followed by tea at the Strand Palace Hotel. Seventy eight red hatters in total attended this outing, but the organization itself is the largest women's social group in the world, boasting over 70,000 members in 26 different countries! Most women in the society are age 50 and over; women under 50 wear pink hats. I learned about this group about twelve years ago when my friend told me about his grandmother's involvement in it. He was a little confused by the concept, but to me it made perfect sense :)
